Outstanding Student Paper
Cash awards will be given for the outstanding student paper in each of the following categories:
- The Jerome Kaplan Award for Best Graduate Paper
- The Arnedia Smith Award for Best Undergraduate Paper
- Outstanding Student Paper on Conference Theme
Papers and posters may be created specifically for the conference or may be a modification of current works such as class papers, projects, theses, and dissertations.
Selection Process
In order to be considered for one of the three paper awards listed above, students must first submit an abstract in order to have their papers or posters accepted for presentation at the OAGE Annual Meeting and Conference. The abstract should be submitted electronically via email with the abstract attached in a Microsoft Word document. The following presenter information is required:
- Student’s Full Name
- The name of the college or University in which the student is enrolled
- Student Mailing Address
- Student Email Address
- Student Phone Number
- Indication as to whether the submission will be a Poster or Paper Presentation. Students interested in submitting their papers for a student award should include that information with the abstract.
Abstract
Guidelines for the abstract are as follows:
- 200 – 250 Word Maximum
- Title of Presentation
- List Primary Author and any Co-Authors, Title, Organization, Affiliation, and Contact Information
- Purpose Statement
- Abstracts based on empirical research, policy analysis, theoretical ideas, innovative programs or conceptually original literature reviews are welcome. Abstracts based on empirical research should provide specific information about the problem studied, sample study design and findings.
- Descriptive Narrative
- Indicate whether you intend to submit a full paper or poster for a student award.
- Submit the abstract by the appropriate due date listed in the “Call for Papers”
- An email confirmation will be sent upon receipt of the abstract. If you don’t receive a confirmation within 5 working days of submission, please contact Mary Jo Hyde at the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging at 614-481-3511.
Acceptance of Abstract
Once the abstract has been accepted for presentation, students who are applying for one of the awards listed above must submit a full paper by the deadline of January 15, 2010. If a student would like a poster to be considered, a paper must be submitted based on the poster.
Note: Students who are applying for The Jerome Kaplan Award for Best Graduate Paper must be currently enrolled in a college or university graduate program. Students applying for the Outstanding Student Paper on the Conference Theme must be enrolled in college or university undergraduate or graduate program.
Nominations, including a resume or vita, are due March 5th, 2010 unless advertised otherwise.
