Message from the President - Winter 2011 PDF Print

Dear Colleague,

I am proud to be part of the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education (OAGE) and hope that you have or will become a member of this organization. We are all aware of the dramatic demographic changes facing Ohio, the U.S and almost every other country in the world. Never before have we experienced aging at this level of magnitude and its impact has and will affect every aspect of our society. This aging phenomenon, coupled with today’s tremendous economic pressures on Social Security, private pensions, health and long-term care and social service programs, means that we will need an efficient and effect system to meet the needs of our aging nation. OAGE brings together professionals in the field of aging, researchers, and students to create a membership association dedicated to helping our nation address these challenges. Through our annual meeting, quarterly postings about research and practice on our web site, regional trainings, and our list serve, it is our goal to help all of us working in the field of aging gain access to better information and to have a forum to share ideas. I hope that you will join us at this year’s annual conference at Youngstown State University, where professionals, students and researchers will join together to examine this year’s conference theme focusing on disparities that exist across the aging population. Although these are difficult times, the opportunity to help Ohio and the nation prepare for the aging of our society also make this an exciting time. I hope you will join all of us at OAGE in our quest to improve the lives of older people and the individuals who have dedicated their lives to this profession.

Warm Regards,

Bob Applebaum,  OAGE President
